This Rough Magic

2000

A free adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest, by Polly Wiseman was performed on an oil rig that had been towed on to Brighton beach.

The show was made possible by our patron Lord Attenborough and our sponsors Red Bull, whose extreme sports team base jumped from a helicopter, jet-skied in from the ocean, performed incredible stunt bike tricks and contributed an unforgettable wow factor to an immense show that also featured fireworks, lasers, drag queens, performers dangling 30ft up in the air from cranes and a specially commissioned drum n bass soundtrack.

We attracted a record audience of 40,000 and received extensive press and TV coverage. Endemol TV followed our progress from inception to first night for the reality TV series 'Brighton Rocks'!
