The Secret Life of Charlie Chaplin

Anton Binder's play focussed on the famous trial accusing Chaplin of the statutory rape of 14 year old Lilita McMurray, which led to Chaplin's exile from Hollywood, his career effectively ruined. The play's subtext was the prudish public reaction to the revelations, contrasted with their seemingly insatiable desire for scandal and gossip - suggesting obvious contemporary parallels for a modern audience.

The production integrated video projection (specially produced excerpts and archive footage), some suprisingly suggestive blues music of the period and an extremely flexible set to create an exciting, fast moving show for a festival audience.
